Scoring
Points come from real results. An athlete in your starting lineup scores for where they finish, for the marks they set, and for how far they progress through a championship.
Only the final round of an event scores place points. In a single-round meet, such as most Diamond League events, the race itself is the final. Places outside the top eight score nothing.
| Final placing | Points |
|---|---|
| 1st | 10 |
| 2nd | 8 |
| 3rd | 6 |
| 4th | 5 |
| 5th | 4 |
| 6th | 3 |
| 7th | 2 |
| 8th | 1 |
Bonuses stack on top of place points and apply to the athlete's final-round mark. A world record that is also a meet record and a personal best earns all three.
| Bonus | Points | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Personal best | +2 | The athlete's final-round mark beats their previous lifetime best. |
| Meet record | +3 | The mark sets a new record for that competition. |
| World record | +5 | The mark is a new world record. |
Championships run heats, semifinals, and finals, so athletes get paid for progressing. These bonuses only apply when the event actually had earlier rounds. An athlete with a bye straight into a final still earns the final bonus, but a straight final pays no advancement bonus to anyone.
| Bonus | Points | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced past the heats | +1 | The athlete appeared in a semifinal or final after running a heat. |
| Advanced past the semifinals | +1 | The athlete appeared in the final after running a semifinal. |
| Competed in the final | +2 | The athlete lined up in the final of an event that had earlier rounds. |
A 1500m runner wins a championship final in a world record, having come through a heat and a semifinal:
| Won the final | +10 |
| World record | +5 |
| Competed in the final | +2 |
| Advanced past the semifinals | +1 |
| Advanced past the heats | +1 |
| Total | 19 |
The same athlete winning a one-round Diamond League race in a season's best, but not a lifetime best, scores 10: place points only.
The draft board rates every athlete with a single performance score based on the World Athletics scoring tables, the same idea used to score a decathlon. It lets you compare a 100m sprinter with a 5000m runner or a shot putter on one scale: an 1100-point mark is world class in any event. That rating helps you draft. Fantasy points, the ones on this page, are what wins your league.
The tables above are the defaults for a new league. Commissioners can change place points, add or remove bonuses, and set the value of each advancement bonus, including a national-record bonus that is off by default. Read more in how leagues work.
