How to play fantasy track & field

Heatsheet works like the fantasy leagues you already know, with real athletes and real meet results doing the scoring. Six steps from sign-up to season champion.

01

Create or join a league

Start a league and share its invite code, or join a friend's league with theirs. A league holds up to 8 teams and follows the professional World Athletics calendar.

02

Draft your roster

Draft live with your league in a snake order that reverses every round. Each pick has a 90-second clock, and every team finishes with 14 athletes.

03

Set your lineup

Choose 10 starters before each meet, up to 2 each from sprints, middle distance, distance, field, and specialty events. Rosters lock when the meet begins.

04

Score real results

When your starters compete, their final placings become points: 10 for a win down to 1 for eighth, plus bonuses for personal bests, records, and advancing through rounds.

05

Work the waiver wire and trade

Dropped athletes sit on waivers for 24 hours and claims resolve in priority order, worst record first. Trades go through as soon as the other manager accepts.

06

Win the season

Standings are cumulative. Every point your starters score across the league's scheduled meets counts, and the highest total at the end of the season takes the title.

Before your first draft

  • Balance your roster across categories. Your lineup can only start 2 athletes per category, so a team of eight sprinters leaves points on the bench. See the roster rules.
  • Championship meets pay more. Athletes who run heats and semifinals earn advancement bonuses on top of their final placing. The scoring page has a worked example.
  • Check the schedule. An athlete only scores at meets on your league's calendar, so a star who skips the Diamond League circuit is a bench player.
  • Learn the events. Our events guide explains how each discipline is run and what a world-class mark looks like.
